The Next LMS Initiative
The Results of a Successful Search
After nearly a year long search, Northeastern selected Canvas as its next LMS and is fully transitioning from Blackboard to Canvas for fall 2020.
Initial research, and feedback from the Northeastern community, revealed that Canvas has the ability to support a university of Northeastern’s size and the needs of all of its campuses and learners.
Transition Timeline
Canvas is the new Learning Management for Northeastern. Some colleges may have specific plans for transitioning to Canvas. For any questions on college-specific transition processes, please check with your college.

Summary of the Pilot Phase
As part of the search for a modern new learning management system that will enable the customized teaching and learning envisioned in Northeastern 2025, the university conducted pilots of Canvas during the fall 2019 semester, which continued through spring 2020.
During the pilots, all student and faculty participants had ample opportunities to consult with members of the next LMS transition team, to provide feedback, and to make recommendations on whether they believe Canvas is the right fit for Northeastern’s next LMS. Pilot feedback and results were critical to the selection of Canvas as the next LMS and to preparations for this transition.
A Northeastern Canvas environment is available for students and faculty participating in the pilots, as well as other university community members who would like to explore the platform at its simplest, most out-of-the-box form. Log in using your myNortheastern username and password.
